Before you leave: practical info
The Groote Peel, the Deurnese Peel, and the Mariapeel are protected nature reserves. Therefore, there are a number of rules and points of attention for your visit:
Opening hours and area closures
You may walk here from sunrise to sunset. Parts of the area are closed during the breeding season (15 March to 15 July) and bird migration season (15 October to 30 November). More information can be found on the Staatsbosbeheer website.
With dogs
Dogs are allowed, but only on a leash. Stay on the paths to avoid disturbing wildlife in the area. Dog waste does not belong in nature either. Use a waste bag to clean it up and take the bag home with you. There are no trash bins in the nature reserves, to avoid attracting animals with waste.
Physical disability access
Would you like to explore the area with a wheelchair, mobility scooter, or stroller? Follow the yellow route starting from Buitencentrum De Pelen in Ospel. This paved path is 2 km long. The Kabouterpad (Gnome Trail) is also partially paved. Along this route, you will find a birdwatching hut and observation tower that are wheelchair accessible.
Cycling
Cycling through the nature reserves in National Park De Peel is not allowed. Exceptions apply in De Groote Peel on the cycle paths along the eastern side (Mussenbaan cycle path, junction 94 to 5) and southern side (junction 7 to 8) of the area. In the Mariapeel, cycling is partly allowed on sandy paths; please pay attention to the signs in the area.
Horse riding
Horse riding is only allowed in National Park De Peel on the bridle path at the southeastern side of De Groote Peel.
